"Spartacus" halted after star's cancer diagnosis

Starz's freshman drama "Spartacus: Blood and Sand" has halted series production due to star Andy Whitfield being diagnosed with cancer.


Whitfield, 38, plays the title role in the show and was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma and will begin treatment immediately.


"I'm receiving excellent care and am feeling strong, positive and determined with an army of support behind me," the Welsh-born actor said.

Sotheby's raises record sum at Amsterdam auction

An auction at Sotheby's of more than 160 works of post-war and contemporary art from the Peter Stuyvesant Collection exceeded all expectations on Monday, raising a record 13.6 million euros ($18.6 million).


The works on offer in Amsterdam were the property of British American Tobacco The Netherlands and formed the largest collection of such art ever to come to auction in the country.
