A couple of the video players that I have used have the capacity to play back at slightly increased speeds. I have used players that work at up to 1.5 x recorded speed and they seem to work well for most speakers except for those who speak exceptionally fast already.

On Bloggingheads they have this function called 'dingalink' which allows a commenter to extract a segment of the video and then comment on it. If we had a tool that could do that it would allow users to focus the discussion on a particular segment.

The dingalink would then show up in the activity section on the home page.

All of which might alleviate the desire to make other layout changes.

I think that he is aiming to get the same type of functionality that you might have if we were looking at an MS Word document with the comments function on. Comments can be viewed either based upon the text of the document or based upon the order in which they were made.

This strikes me as a version 2 type functionality

On the interim we may be able to get the comment functionality that Mark speaks of by putting the comments in the right hand column of the presentation screens.
